honestly that soundtrack bit hits me every time.
She look like she produces terrible sandwiches and OF VIDS
Yeah you can't beat Marty Odonnels rendition of Halo music.
color me crushed
I've never played Dark Souls, can someone please explain the significance of that sound?
It's a callback to the final boss of Ds1. According to lore this boss is an amalgonation of all the lords that kindled the flame, and in phase 2 he summons the power of the first lord of cinder (from dark souls 1)
Только не говорите ей про бензапилу
I love you... Sorry I meant I love this scene.
wow, you are beautiful lady
This is the most damn BI PANIC game ever made, including Hades 1. There is one later character who KILLS ME
I don't get it
Great loop
You look good, but you sound better. <3
This song specifically plays when you fight against him.
I remember the context of ODST and Reach, Bungie's condition for being released by Microsoft was to make two more Halo games. Both were like a love letter to the franchise. A wonderful sendoff in both their stories, soundtracks, and characters.
Putting this in a From Soft game would be incredibly unfitting and immersion breaking
Mick is the MacGyver of synth metal :D
I guess I’m playing doom tonight
Not sure if you're still interested in checking out the Doom OSTs, and I know the soundtracks are better known for the heavier tracks like this one, but don't sleep on the ambient tracks like The Betrayer either. Mick got a singer who could chant close to 20Hz in pitch for it and it sounds so fitting for the game. Of course, if you want another heavier track then definitely check out Reclaimed Earth. It's in the second expansion and it goes so hard while being just such a, for a lack of a better word, groovy track. Plays with time signatures a lot, sounds so utterly unique compared to what has been heard before in Doom all while still fitting into the game thematically and having clear moments of intensity and heaviness. It was done by Andrew Hulshult, not Mick Gordon, for clarity.
Not sure if it's said anywhere in the comments, but there are 0 guitars used in the composition of this track. It sounds like there are, but Mick has said there aren't. Nuts!
Like other commenters have said, this comes from the soundtrack for the first DLC for Eternal, specifically the second level. Gameplay context is important here to get why the music isn't as, say, intense as some of the other tracks. Throughout the main game of Eternal, you are constantly upgrading your arsenal of weapons and abilities and taking on many threats in larger encounters. The game is constantly teaching you the optimal way to play, and if it clicks for you you will just clean house and enjoy the ride. The director for Eternal, Hugo Martin, described the experience of being in the zone when playing Eternal as "driving a Formula 1 car" and you absolutely feel it. The game on its highest difficulties is so intense, you're just making so many decisions so quickly and if you slip up once or twice it could mean certain death. The enemies do NOT fuck around. But as a player, as the Slayer, neither do you. By the time you get to the end of the game, you're fully upgraded and have multiple weapons that can decimate even the largest of foes. So in the DLC, how do you build upon this experience gameplay-wise while having the music fit? Well the level this track is featured in is quite free form to navigate but also introduced some new enemies that significantly up the ante. When it launched, you could round a corner and be caught completely off guard right as the main riff of this track kicks in and you don't have time to prepare, you just have to act. The expansions do so much to test just how good you are at the game, and on launch it was so difficult (they've updated it since to be more balanced, but I kinda miss having my ass handed to me). You ended up being in this level for hours on the hardest difficulty, and the music isn't too overwhelming so as to not exhaust players from an audio standpoint or to hinder them from being able to think and make effective combat decisions on the fly. The fights in this level are also in quite narrow spaces, and in Eternal movement is key otherwise you die, so there's an added challenge there as well. Like this track is no Meathook or The Only Thing They Fear Is You, but in context it's a perfect fit and basically sounds like Metallica meets Doom. Love it for that.
So about the chanting at the end of this track: When producing the Doom Eternal OST, Mick put a call out for singers to participate in a "metal choir" (there's some video of it on UA-cam). He invented a demonic Hell language for them to chant as well as using English words like the RIP AND TEAR you hear in this track and some others. Why RIP AND TEAR? Well, there's an old Doom comic/graphic novel that when it was released was critically panned for being too cheesy. One of the lines the player character. Doomguy, says to a giant demon is "you're huge! Which means you have huge guts! Rip and tear!!" Mick took this cheesy line and made it badass by incorporating it into the Eternal soundtrack. More on the metal choir: Mick Gordon and id Software (the developers of DOOM) had a rather public falling out. But id had planned two expansion packs for Doom Eternal prior to this, for which Mick would not be returning to compose. They brought on board two other composers: Andrew Hulshult and David Levy, both are excellent but Andrew is easily my favourite and has such a unique style. They used more of the chanting in their compositions for other levels in the expansion packs and they are both incredible. For reference and if you haven't found them already, the tracks of note that incorporate the chanting are The World Spear and Immora from the second expansion, The Ancient Gods part 2. Final bit of trivia: Mick, Andrew and David are all huge Doom fans and played the originals when they were younger. The music from original Doom is MIDI but the actual arrangements themselves are just as "get stuck in your head" as modern Doom's. So all of the composers found ways to write some of the original MIDI themes from the Doom games of the 90's into the modern Doom games they all worked on. Avid listeners such as myself are STILL finding references to the music from original Doom. Just goes to show how great art comes from truly passionate people. Anywho, you popped up in my recommendeds so I'm binging your videos. Awesome stuff.
Mick actually used a 9 string guitar for this track and a few others on DOOM 2016's OST (namely Hellwalker, the main/pause menu music where he mixed a riff with a sample of the original Doom games' chainsaw sound). He's friends with the "extreme metal" band Meshuggah, after completing the DOOM 2016 OST he gave the 9 string guitar to the band's guitarist and in Mick's own words "he doesn't know what to do with it".
Carpenters music, step up to deathcore or frenchcore.
I rarely play with the music loud enough to notice. Even after beating it like 20+ over the years I never knew the plin plin plon was there until now. It's a neat little detail. Now if only the boss was actually interesting or challenging. All three base Souls games had such disappointing last bosses.
To be fair SOC is the best out of em. And the problem isnt the moveset, the problem is that his hp is too small.
Dondald duck having a seizure:
DS3 is the peak example of how to do genuine fan service while also maintaining originality of theme and story. It’s a v difficult thing to pull off but from nailed it. There’s a reason no one complain “why isn’t there a dark souls 4??”
If youre not a fan: this looks stupid.
Perfect no notes
Ngl you have such a contagious and sweet laugh. ❤❤ Love watching your reactions...
ultrakill next?
I think Airbuster should be next. What do you guys think?
It's the kind of music I bet you like making love to right?
For a moment I thought you said Fort Condor.
It’s really the kind of music that makes you wanna… *RIP AND TEAR* until it is done fr
Great seeing a 30yo Nestory Irankunda playing for psg there 😊 he just signed for Bayern irl
Yeah I do have a second phase ❤
Fun fact. Your listening to a chainsaw.
Hello . Nice to meet you . I am a die-hard fan of Doom Eternal and I am very interested in his music, especially in the field of rock and metal. I really like your reactions to my favorites.❤❤❤
Have you listened to wolfenstein series by Mick Gordon?
second phase? what a cuck
Game producers : how violent is the main OST Mick gordon : *yes*
I don't understand whats going on or why everyone in the comment section is so excited about plin plin plon 😂 I've replayed the short and still don't understand why this is important 🤣
As much as I love these games and music, I’ve never played them close together enough that I would ever recognize a tiny bit of a music theme being blended in like this, especially whilst I get my ass combo’d to hell
Fun fact: the sound before the bass drop is from a chainsaw No you are not tripping, a fucking chainsaw
Thats my jam.
Fun fact, the hang time on the drop is a chainsaw processed to hell and back
laughs at it, then hears the drop and moves all your tingles up
DID she miss out on the "When the Doom music kicks in" videos.
I suggest a listen to Breshi’s fan made raid soundtrack “fight forever”
I love this guys music we need more doom games guys dont you agree?
